Why do we use the word pillar for our members?
The Mauryan emperor Asoka in the 3rd Century BCE erected pillars at the sacred sites of Buddhism to mark them for posterity. Buddhist practitioners and devotees often left inscribed plaques on their donated pillars at monuments throughout Buddhist Asia. Pillars or columns represent support and stability. Tibetan Buddhist pillars are architecturally functional and their decorative elements contain many symbolic meanings that remind us of our practice. By becoming a pillar, you support your center and help us recollect the teachings and the historical tradition through your kindness and generosity.
Our members provide Gomde with the financial stability to operate our classes, offer teaching retreat programs during the warmer seasons, provide individual retreat opportunities and so much more.
