Art and Meditation: Learn to Bring Creativity into your Meditation and Meditation into your Creativity
July 23-29, 2011

Register now. E-mail us at programs@gomdecooperstown.org for more details.

In this program we will be exploring a meditative approach to art and the creative process. Learning the fundamentals of tangkha painting, a centuries old Buddhist art form, we will be guided by the highly accomplished Urgyen Gyalpo.

Urgyen Gyalpo is a monk in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and has studied under the master tangkha painter the Venerable Konchog Lhadrepa in the Karma Gardi style. Having worked on many major projects in monasteries and temples both east and west, as well as being the head instructor at Tsering art school, we are truly fortunate to have this extremely talented and gentle monk teach us how to fuse mindfulness and creativity in order to produce beauty in our world.

We encourage those attending to stay here if possible, as staying within the confines of the center adds protection for the mind and makes it much easier to connect with the teachings. Because lodging is fairly expensive in this area, we have also arranged to put up people with special needs (either physical or for private places to practice) at local sangha members’ homes. The charge for this will be the same as for staying at Gomde. Please let us know what housing arrangements you prefer, and we will do our best to accommodate you.

We will provide a free shuttle service from Albany International airport to Rangjung Yeshe Gomde Cooperstown on August 5 and 6. The shuttle will run twice per day, with the first shuttle leaving the airport at 1pm and the second timed with the arrival of the last person each night. For this reason, if you want to use the shuttle service, it is very important to let us when you are arriving. Thank you!
