About Cooperstown Retreat Center Rangjung Yeshe Gomde Cooperstown was founded in 2008 by H.E. Chokling Rinpoche, H.E. Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, and Phakchok Rinpoche through The Chokgyur Lingpa Foundation. Gomde’s 26 acres of land in Cooperstown, New York will function many years to come as a haven for Buddhists in the Northeast of the U.S. At present, there are three structures on the property Barn – Guru Rinpoche’s Hall Our spacious, high-roofed barn allows us to host large programs of 100 or more people in the summertime. Secondary house –Khenpo Shantarakshita’s House of Dharma A second, smaller barn currently hosts our office, store, and indoor dining facilities for program participants. Lama House – Guru Trisong Deutsen The main house on the property, which is fully furnished, serves as an appropriate Lama House that allows Rinpoche and other teachers an appropriate venue for private audiences with students and other visitors. Program participants are asked to respect it as the personal quarters of Rinpoche and his immediate family, and their need for privacy. Grounds At present, the grounds are almost entirely lawns and meadows, with a great feeling of open space and sky. In the future, more trees may be planted at various parts of the property, and the small pond may be improved to a more park-like setting.Practice and Study Groups With the blessings of Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche, study groups have been organized in a number of cities across the U.S.. Sangha members meet on a regular basis to do group practice, discuss readings and watch teaching videos or DVDs. Please send an e-mail if you would like to join our meetings.
